DR. CAROLINE OKONKOWSKI

Dr. Caroline Okonkowski is the owner of Taylor Smiles. She graduated from the University of Montreal, Canada in 2002 and completed an Advanced Clinical Education in general dentistry in 2003. She joined Taylor Smiles in 2009 where she has been offering exceptional dental care to thousands of patients. Patients travel from other states and countries to see Dr. Okonkowski as she provides the highest standard of care, with her warm and friendly approach, in a compassionate and caring environment. She is also committed to developing a customized dental plan that will address your personal needs and concerns.

Dr. Okonkowski was awarded “Top Dentist USA” in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She was also honored “America’s Best Dentist” and “Leading Physicians of the World” awards. She has been featured in national magazines, including Dentaltown and local newspapers, including The News-Herald and Taylor Today.

Dr. Okonkowski is an active proponent of post-graduate continuing education and she is committed to constantly improving her skills in quickly advancing dental technologies. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Scheduling Institute and an Associate Fellow of the World Laser Institute. She is also a certified Invisalign provider.

Dr. Okonkowski is very involved in the Taylor community and believes in giving back. For 11 years, Dr. Okonkowski has co-hosted “Dentistry from the Heart,” an event which provides free dental treatment to adults in need. She also proudly sponsors “Family Health Day” with the Taylor Rotary, Taylor Little League Baseball, Taylor Farmers Market, local health fairs, Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry as well as being involved in multiple fundraisers, sponsorships, and community events.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. She also speaks French fluently.

DR. MATTHEW ARTLEY

Dr. Matthew Artley has joined the team at Taylor Smiles after having served the dental needs of the Downriver community for over 15 years. As a general dentist, Dr. Artley strives to make patients feel comfortable, focusing on patient-centric dentistry. He thoroughly and thoughtfully reviews patients’ treatment needs and options. And in turn, he carefully listens to the concerns and desires for their oral health.

Dr. Artley attended The University of Michigan and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Cellular Molecular Biology. He then went on to attend The University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2005. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and is a certified provider for Invisalign.

In his free time, Dr. Artley enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys activities including fishing, hiking and running.

DR. CHRISTOPHER DYKI

Christopher Dyki, D.D.S. is the newest member of the Taylor Smiles team. Providing the best quality dental services is his highest priority with ultimate goal to help patients feel and look their best. Along with general dental service, Dr. Dyki provides root canals, extractions, dentures and implants.

Dr. Dyki served in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Parachutist. After being honorably discharged in 1994, he attended Central Michigan University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After which attended the University of Detroit/Mercy Dental School and graduated in 2002. He practiced dentistry in Sebewaing, MI along with being a Captain in the Michigan National Guard until 2004.

Dr. Dyki is very involved in the community. He is past president for both the Sebewaing and Eastpointe Rotary Clubs. He has received America’s Best Dentist Award and the American College of Dentists Leadership Award. He has also done a Dental Mission trip to the Dominican Republic. He is looking forward to participating again in our annual Dentistry From the Heart event in September.

Dr. Dyki is married and has 2 wonderful sons. He enjoys water sports including stand up paddle boarding. He is truly excited to meet and serve your dental needs for many years to come.

DR. LOUIS VAUPOTIC

Louis Vaupotic joins the Taylor Smiles Team with over 30 years of dental experience. He believes in treating patients with care, compassion and a gentle touch. Dr. Vaupotic provides all general dental services but focuses primarily on root canal treatment and oral surgery.

Dr. Vaupotic is from Windsor, Ontario where he received a Bachelor of Science at the University of Windsor. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Detroit, School of Dentistry. Dr. Vaupotic has also completed several advanced certifications in Anesthesiology, Endodontics, Oral Surgery and Implantology.

Dr. Vaupotic looks forward to helping you achieve and maintain excellent oral health.

DR. HEBA ABUHUSSEIN

Dr. Heba Abuhussein is a Board Certified Periodontist. She joined our team in 2014 to help meet the advanced periodontal needs of our patients, including implants. She also provides esthetic cosmetic procedures that give our patients a fresh new look with fillers, threads, and Botox. She feels extremely fortunate to be in such a wonderful profession that enables her to improve the quality of life of her patients.

Dr. Heba was born in Los Angeles, California. She moved back to her native country Saudi Arabia when her father completed his Ph.D. in education at the University of Southern California. She grew up in Saudi Arabia, where she completed her education and graduated the top of her class earning a DDS degree at King Abdulaziz University Dental School.

Dr. Heba returned to the United States in 2006 where she completed the Graduate Periodontal Program at the University of Michigan in 2009. She has taught at the University of Michigan’s Dental School and King Abdulaziz University Dental School. She is currently pursuing private practice. She has volunteered her services in treating migrant patients at the University of Michigan Dental Migrant Program in Traverse City and has participated in our annual Dentistry From the Heart events.

Dr. Heba is an active member and Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology. She loves nature and outdoor activities like playing sports, biking, skiing, and swimming. She spends most of her leisure time with her three dogs, friends and visiting her family.

DR. STEVEN SHWEDEL

Dr. Steven Shwedel, D.D.S. provided exceptional dental care to Taylor and the Downriver community for over 43 years before retiring in January 2020. He will remain “Dentist Emeritus” at Taylor Smiles and be in the office upon occasion. Dr. Shwedel plans on enjoying his retirement traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will always have fond memories of the patients that he had the privilege to serve.
